The People vs Alex Cross James Patterson Books
James Patterson has put his iconic creation, Alex Cross, through all sorts of changes --- many of them bad --- since introducing him almost a quarter-century ago in ALONG CAME A SPIDER. Patterson, who has never been rightfully accused of failing to give his readers their money’s worth, pulls out all the stops in the newly published THE PEOPLE VS. ALEX CROSS. Yes, as the title indicates, Cross is in the courtroom, and on the wrong side of it, as he finds himself on trial not only for his job but also for his life...and that’s only part of the book.Cross is on the docket as the result of a police action in which he is accused of an unjustified shooting. Because it took place in Washington, D.C., the might and majesty of the federal government is brought to bear against him as well. The case appears to be open and shut, given that the dead and wounded were all unarmed at the time of the shootings. This is astounding to Cross, who is certain that each of them possessed handguns at the time the deal went down. When seemingly uncontroverted proof is presented to the effect that Cross is wrong, it looks as if he is about to lose everything he holds dear, including his occupation and his liberty. His only hope for exoneration comes from not one but two unexpected sources.
Meanwhile, life goes on. Cross’ longtime friend and former partner, John Sampson, is busy investigating several kidnappings involving young women with blond hair who are later featured on the internet in what are cleverly staged “snuff” films that appear on what is known as the “darknet.” For the uninitiated, the darknet actually does exist, as described, and while THE PEOPLE VS. ALEX CROSS does not contain a “how-to” guide with respect to accessing the material available in the nether reaches of the information superhighway, it does present a chilling picture of what it is and who is on it.
Cross is there to assist Sampson, even if it is on the down-low, when he is not sitting as a defendant in court. Yes, it is a bit of a stretch, as is Cross continuing to engage in private psychotherapy practice while on trial for murder. But one can forgive these bits of artistic license (including a momentary violation of client confidentiality that also takes place) as the suspense quotient in both storylines --- particularly the one concerning the abductions --- is ratcheted up to stratospheric levels.
THE PEOPLE VS. ALEX CROSS is a turning point of sorts. Patterson, who is without peer in the creation of frightening antagonists, is also a master of throwing curves at irregular intervals into the lives of his protagonists. If the conclusion is any indication of what is to come, it appears that Cross and his family will be experiencing some major changes in the next several installments of the series. If you have been away from Cross’ world for a bit, now may be the time to get reacquainted.

The People vs Alex Cross James Patterson Books Reviews
Too much going on at the same time so each took away from the the other.
Not up to his usual standard. Didn’t like all of the torture. Not the usual alex cross book that I look forward to reading.
Five stars? Not enough! James Patterson's, The People vs Alex Cross moves along at a steady pace. After all the years Alex Cross has placed his life and family in danger, and living through it, he is being prosecuted for two counts of murder and one attempted. Having spent many hours in my life time as an inspector, and in court, reading this excellent book, I wonder just where in the devil did this Judge, and U. S. Department of Justice prosecutor, are going, it is just unreal! Every time Alex's defense attorney objects, she is over rolled. When you read this great book, you'll understand, perhaps, why I was astounded! Alex continues to help his long time partner and friend, Sampson. Alex is on administrative leave from the Metro Police, DC, and is not to assist anyone on investigations. But he does and gets a bit in trouble for his efforts. Not only from the department, but also from his boss, Chief Stone, his wife. Sampson current partner is in training but feels she knows enough to act on her own. There is someone who is kidnapping blondes and video tapping cruel punishments of them. Six are missing, and it appears from the thumb drives, they are murdered after cruel treatment. I am not going to write in this review what happens at the end of the trial. Mixed in with the trial, Alex's family is progressing along in sports. This is an adventure with-in it's self. You won't be sorry you purchased this great book by, James Patterson, The People vs. Alex Cross. Rated, all ages. No strong language or sexual descriptions. DP. Castro Valley, CA.
Now let me start this review by stating that I've currently read each entry in the Alex Cross series and have come to love the character over time. Some entries tend to be weaker than others but overall, I've enjoyed most of them. While this one wasn't my favorite, I liked seeing a more vulnerable Alex Cross. Being on trial has caused Cross to question whether he wants to continue in the police field or go back to full time counseling. Both have their pros and cons for him. Throughout the trial, you will question, along with Alex, as to whether or not he truly is guilty. Was his mind playing tricks on him? Did he shoot those people in cold blood or was it a good shoot? Without spoiling anything for the reader, I will just tell you that this one does not read like the typical Cross novel and I liked that. This novel shows Cross taking an honest look at himself and having to decide what his future is going to be career wise, and aside from that... will he serve time if the jury finds him guilty?
Alex Cross is one of my favorite characters, and this book didn’t disappoint. Suspenseful, kept me on the edge, couldn’t put it down. Alex Cross is on trial, has been suspended from his job pending the verdict. On the sly he and his old partner investigate a case where young women are tortured and terrorized. You must read this book. When you think Alex Cross can’t get better, he does. Way to go, James Patterson.
Another great Alex Cross mystery. Two storylines here. Lots of forensic computer events. A super enticing read. Highly recommend this book!
Book was great because Patterson alone wrote book. The character of Alex Cross is strong. Details are important , not just to fill space.
