She thought she had it all as she worked as a pastry chef. But was unhappy working for a phony chef who made her life miserable. She finally had enough and quit abruptly. Returning to her family home she was so confused as to what is really important. She also was having a hard time accepting the fact she had spiked the interest of a handsome young man. Much to her dismay, Sam heads back to New York for an interview for a new job before the big celebration of her families orchard centennial and her grandmother Willo’s 75 Birthday.
This is such a loving tribute to the women who have come before us and left their mark on our lives that some of us never even realized. How our history is sometimes taken for granted. Family, love and food always go together.
I highly recommend this book!

The Recipe Box A Novel The Heirloom Novels Viola Shipman 9781250146779 Books Reviews
This book brought back so many memories of my grandma and favorite recipes she made. Our family get-togethers are so special as others bring their favorite recipe of Grandma's so the food is always delicious. When reading about the pies it made my mouth water! This is a very enjoyable read!
This is a charming chick lit book. This is my second book by this author and I really loved it. And he shared the recipes mentioned in the book.
Another wonderful book that takes me back to my childhood and cooking with mom. Great insights for growing up using wisdom from the past and insight into the future. Loved it.
This book made me laugh and made me cry. I am from along line of bakers and we have a small family cookbook that we printed out for our huge family.it was a labor of love. This book brought back old memories. Very enjoyable read!
This story transforms you to a simpler time and place. The strong connection to family is something that is so prominent, it touches you deeply. The author, through her vivid descriptions, made the locations come alive. I could smell the orchard, see the colors, and almost taste the crusts and fruit! So much so, I want to run into my kitchen and bake and immediately visit Michigan. The characters were written so well I felt as if they became my friends and I will really miss them. This is a wonderful read of comfort and love.
Wonderfully written story embracing the love of family and the food memories that they share which carries through for generations. Almost made me feel as if we all could actually survive on a diet consisting entirely of pie!
Word of caution, do not read this book while you are hungry as the mouth watering recipes will have you racing to the kitchen in search of something sweet! Sam's family owns an orchard and a pie shop in Michigan. Sam felt the need to branch out so she was professionally trained and is currently working for a celebrity chef in New York City. Sam enjoys life in NYC with her friends but is not enamored of her work environment.
Sam's Michigan roots are tugging at her and she returns home for a visit with her family. Once Sam is back in Michigan, the story of the actual recipe box comes to life and how it has been a family gift over the generations. The love among this family seeps into you as you read this book. Sam's mother Deanna and her grandmother Willo are people I wish I could sit down with and enjoy a meal. Their support and encouragement of Sam is something to which all families should aspire.
Not only is this book a delight to read but throughout the book are fabulous words of wisdom. One of my favorites was "You can't stop time. You can only hope you use it wisely."
Run out and get this book as you are in for a treat! This book is delicious in the way it is written and with the added bonus of the recipes included in the book. If you haven't read the author's other novels, "The Charm Bracelet" and "The Hope Chest", be sure to add those to your list of must read books. I wish I did not have to wait a year for the author's next book, but I know it will be worth the wait!
